Spectator, photographer, or model? Active subject or mere object? Exuding an air of intimacy, the self-portraits from hotel rooms by the photographer, who was raised in Austria, cast her in several roles at once: she features in front of the camera as an erotic pin-up while also acting as the photographer behind, and with her hands on, the camera. This self-dramatization questions the prevailing voyeuristic and objectifying gaze on female bodies.
